Miguel Carvalho (Chief Executive Officer)

Miguel is a B.Sc. in Computer Sciences, a M.Sc. in Engineering Policy and Management of Technology from IST and MBA by AESE and IESE Business School. Miguel has 8+ years of experience in management of multidisciplinary teams and in the evaluation and development of renewable energy projects in several countries like Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Poland and Cyprus.

Carlos Silva (Chief Science Officer)

Carlos is a BSc (1999), MSc (2001) and PhD (2004) in Mechanical Engineering from IST in Systems Engineering. Currently, he is an invited Assistant Professor at IST for Engineering Systems at the MIT-Portugal Program. He is the scientific coordinator of several industry research projects, including the Green Islands project, and coordinates the educational programs in Sustainable Energy Systems for the MIT-Portugal Program at IST. From March 2001 until February 2004, he was a researcher at Siemens AG, Corporate Technology in the Neuro-Informatics Department from the Information and Communications Division (CT-IC4), in Munich, Germany. From July 2006 until May 2008, he was a Project Manager and Chief Operations Officer at the Albatroz Engineering Inc., a start-up that developed robotic projects for electricity transmission and distribution utilities world-wide. He is currently the Energy Efficiency coordinator of the ENERGYIN.

André Pina (Chief Technology Officer)

André completed his Integrated Master in Technological Physics Engineering at IST in 2007, and was awarded the UTL/SANTANDER TOTTA award for best students. He enrolled in 2007 in the Sustainable Energy Systems PhD Program of the MIT-Portugal Program also at IST and is planning to finish at October 2011. His main area of research focuses on the high-time resolution modeling of energy systems, in particular evaluating the impact of demand side management strategies on energy systems planning and operation, and his work has been presented in several conferences and published in scientific international journals. André has also participated in several national and international projects.
